How To Have A Great Time When You Are Older

When you get older, and I am talking about in your sixties and early seventies you are approaching a time in our lives when we are settling down and enjoying everything that we have built. However, there may be a situation where you are unable to live on your own due to financial reason, health reasons or more which will require us to live in a care facility.

choose a independent living community

If this happens, the process to choose a independent living community can be a challenge. It will be a different way of living and a lot of things to become accustomed to. If this is you, then here are a few tips you may want to consider.

Tip #1 – Take a Tour of the Facility

Before you sign on for anything make sure you take a tour of your future home. This will help to familiarize yourself with the surroundings and meet some of your new neighbors.  If you have questions then this would be an ideal time to ask them.  This is also a good time to check out the food services, ask about programs and activities you may want to get involved with.

Tip #2 – Take Time To Learn the Rules and Regulations of the Community

When we are in our sixties or seventies there are a few things that we can’t do like when we were younger. For example, climbing stairs is more challenging at this age. Also, regulations many communities have living will filed where if you are unable to make a decision on your own then someone would need to step in for you and make that decision for you.

Tip #3 –  Socialize with Other Residents

Once you move into the community take time to participate in events they offer or get involved with the surrounding community. This will keep your mind active and healthy.  This is also a good way to meet new friends that you may enjoy being around.

Tip #4 –   Take Advantage of All The Amenities

When choosing an independent living community, make sure they have all of the amenities that you desire such as an on-site grocery store or pharmacy. Also, choose a community that has some safety features like an emergency call system where you can press one button and help will be there within seconds, have 24-hour staff on duty and services such as laundry rooms.
